Following the success of the much acclaimed “Handbook of European Associations in Higher Education”, ACA decided to create an extensive follow-up to the 2000 publication. The sequel goes beyond European associations and provides detailed information on their counterparts in other world regions and on a global scale. In 2008, the Asia Europe Foundation (ASEF) agreed to co-finance the publication as it will feature a number of Asian higher education associations. The objective of the project was to enhance inter-regional cooperation between European associations on the one hand, and such organisations in other world regions, on the other. This included exchange of information and good practice, policy dialogue and concrete joint projects.

The outcome of this exercise was published by ACA as the Handbook of International Associations in Higher Education. A Practical Guide to 100 Academic Networks World-Wide.
