On 22 November, 2019, ACA's 61st European Policy Seminar From physical to virtual? Internationalising higher education in the digital age was successfully delivered in Brussels. The topic, originally suggested by ACA members, turned out to be a hot topic well attended by over 130 participants from 25 countries within Europe and beyond.

The one-day seminar brought together almost all the topics relevant to the digitalisation of internationalisation. In the morning, European policy updates, digitalisation infrastructure/tools addressing primarily credit mobility were presented. In the afternoon, the focus was placed on degree mobility with critical reflections on the limits and potential of digitalisation for improving the management and of international consortia and the use of data generated by digitalisation for strategisation.       

Speakers working on major digitalisation platforms and tools in Europe, namely Erasmus Without Paper, MyAcademic ID, Erasmus+ Virtual Exchange, OpenU, MicroHE and DreamApply had shared with the participants the latest developments in these projects and insights on how digitalisation is shaping the future of internationalisation activities.  The participants, active as usual, provided them with valuable feedback from university perspective, in addition to the two university consortia, UniGR and Una Europa, represented in the panel discussion.     

ACA owes much thanks to the support of all the speakers and attendees who made the seminar a rewarding experience for all. It was our pleasure to revisit this topic after an intial attempt made some 20 years ago. The seminar proves that one day is too short to cover all major digitalisation initiatives.
