Monitoring Internationalisation of Czech Higher Education (MICHE)

January 2018 - December 2020

Funded by

Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports in Czech Republic

The Monitoring Internationalisation of Czech Higher Education (MICHE) project is funded by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports in the Czech Republic, while organised and supervised by ACA’s Czech member organisation – DZS (Centre for International Cooperation in Education).

The main objective of the project is to support increasing the quality of internationalisation and global attractiveness and competitiveness of Czech higher education, by providing policy makers with information on the state of internationalisation at Czech HEIs and by equipping Czech higher education institutions (HEIs) with a complex tool to reflect, analyse, and improve internationalisation at the institutional level.

The pilot round of the MICHE project was implemented in 2018 with three universities:

1. University of Pardubice,
2. University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague, and
3. Palacky University Olomouc.

The first findings and recommendations were presented to the Ministry in early March 2019 by the expert group, which counts four members: Daniel Casten, Head of International Affairs at the Technical University of Ostrava, Christopher Medalis, Expert Advisor and Consultant (International Education Consulting, and former Institute of International Education – IIE staff), Gábor Dobos, Head of Unit at the Tempus Public Foundation (TPF) – ACA’s Hungarian member organisation, and Irina Ferencz, Deputy Director at ACA.

Six Czech higher education institutions (HEIs) were selected for advising visits in 2019, namely the:

1. University of South Bohemia,
2. University of Hradec Kralove,
3. University of Ostrava,
4. Tomas Bata University in Zlin,
5. Mendel University in Brno, and
6. Brno University of Technology
