ACA Think Pieces: Digitalisation in International Higher Education
Following the successful run of ACA’s “Think Pieces” series in 2020 on the world after Covid-19 and in 2021 on inclusion in the context of higher education, ACA is launching a new series of reflections this year, from thought leaders around Europe, exploring the multi-faceted nature of digitalisation in the higher education sector.
Throughout 2022, leading voices on the digitalisation of HE field, will be sharing their reflections, exploring the multi-faceted nature of digitalisation in higher education institutions from an international cooperation perspective. The contributions in this series will evoke topics such as the current challenges, local/national/regional/EU higher education policies supporting digitalisation and practical examples of digitalisation infrastructures, effective support services for virtual and / or blended mobilities and development of intercultural competences in a digital environment etc
To set the stage for this ongoing series, this first introductory piece, provides some context and frames the scope to the digital transition in international HE. The authors, Raul Ranne, Senior Advisor, Marketing, and Angeliki Psychogyiou, Policy and Project Officer, Digitalisation, both of ACA, discuss the present-day realities in the HE sector, highlighting current challenges from a multi stakeholder perspective, while they also contemplate how bottom-up actions must be supported and enhanced through top-down policies. This is followed by a number of reflections about what the future might hold and how the sector can build on current innovations in digitalisation, to support more, sustainable, and inclusive approaches to education in the post Covid-19 world.
The “Think Pieces” articles will be published electronically on ACA’s website, towards the end of each month, from now until the end of 2022.
We hope you enjoy reading this new Think Pieces series!
