ACA Think Pieces: Digitalisation in International Higher Education
Following the successful run of ACA’s “Think Pieces” series in 2020 on the world after Covid-19 and in 2021 on inclusion in the context of higher education, ACA continues in 2022 by exploring the multi-faceted nature of digitalisation in the higher education sector. Throughout 2022, leading voices on the digitalisation of HE field will be sharing their reflections and exploring the multi-faceted nature of digitalisation in higher education institutions from an international cooperation perspective.
This month’s Think Piece – Making international higher education better by putting the learner at the centre: an opportunity not to be missed – the fourth in this year’s series, is authored by Dominic Orr, adjunct professor for educational management at the University of Nova Gorica, Slovenia. Dominic outlines policy developments that can support the learner pathway in online and blending learning. The piece articulates the existing policies set by the European Commission and emphasises why universities should better leverage and integrate them into online and blended learning programmes.
In this piece, Dominic also underscores the way students already learn online, whether it is formally recognised or not. He builds on this point through highlighting early developments from the European Commission, particularly those within the European Universities alliances and micro-credentials, and encourages institutions to leverage good practice and learn from students’ good experiences.
