Online Talk Flanders

Second in the series of CARe Online Talks, the event will specifically look at how support is provided in and out of academia to researchers at risk/with refugee background in Flanders. The selected speakers will share experiences of Flemish universities but also give examples of support provided outside academia – in the business civil society organisations. The invited researcher will provide an account of personal and professional trajectory in settling in Flanders looking into how support can be further enhanced to address the real needs of the target group.

Date/Time: 24 September 2020, 14:00 - 15:00 CEST

The main goals of the event:

  • Share concrete examples of how the target group can obtain support for their research in and outside of academia
  • Show and discuss how inclusion and diversity policies at HEI level can support researchers’ access to academia and internationalisation of research/workplace
  • Discuss main challenges (short and long-term) and potential ways to overcome them (at national/European level)
  • Reflect on “alternative” pathways and support for the target group beyond the “mainstream” support structures

Speakers

  • Nancy Terryn, Ghent University (GU)
  • Andrea Bardyn, KU Leuven (KUL)
  • Zafer Kizilkaya, Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB)
