Yves Flückiger is the new President of swissuniversities

Yves Flückiger, the Rector of the University of Geneva, is the new President of swissuniversities. He was elected by the General Assembly on 6 February. His initial term will last until January 2023. Fleckiger succeeds Michael Hengartner, who became the President of the Board of ETH, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology based in Zürich.

An economist by training, Flückiger has a rather international curriculum vitae, with periods spent at Harvard, Oxford, Bujumbura (Burundi) and Deakin University in Australia. He presented a weighty list of priorities for his three-year presidency, amongst them cooperation and coordination between the different types of Swiss tertiary institutions; continuous dialogue between the tertiary sector and the Swiss public; the objectives and the financial framework for the period between 2021 and 2024; and Swiss cooperation with the EU in the areas of education and research in general, and in particular, Switzerland’s participation in Horizon Europe.

ACA wishes Yves Flückiger success and luck in his important position.
