As of 1 August, the Directorate-General for Education and Culture of the European Commission has new Director-General – Xavier Prats Monné. Mr Prats Monné was previously Deputy Director-General at DG EAC and in this capacity he was responsible for EU policies and programmes in the field of education and training. As Director-General of DG EAC, he will add to his portfolio EU policies on culture, youth and sports as well as on the Creative Europe programme.
Mr Prats Monné has a long-standing experience in the European Commission in a wide range of topics such as Development Cooperation, foreign affairs, enlargement, social affairs, etc. He has served as Director of the European Social Fund, and in the Cabinets of the EC Vice-President for external relations and Commissioner for Regional policy.
