The paper examines the levels and trends in access to education and educational outcomes across generations of Egyptian youth. Although the study shows that access to education has significantly improved during the last 30 years, it also points to persisting disparities related to gender, area and family educational background. The paper also analyses test-scores from the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) and national examinations.
