Winds of change blow in CRUS

On May 8, the Rectors’ Conference of the Swiss Universities (CRUS) elected Prof. Dr. Antonio Loprieno as the new President of the Association. He will take over his new position as the current President Prof. Dr. Hans Weder, Rector of the University of Zurich, retires in the end of July. The 53-year-old Loprieno is a Bari-born Egyptologist and the Rector of the University Basel. His curriculum vitae includes stays in Turin, Perugia, Göttingen and UCLA, just to name a few. As the President of CRUS, Loprieno hopes especially to secure the autonomy of universities as well as to assist in the development process of the new Swiss university legislation. ACA congratulates the new President and is looking forward to further collaboration with CRUS!

An interview with the current CRUS president Prof. Dr. Hans Weder and the newly elected president Prof. Dr. Loprieno can be found in the first edition of the new CRUS electronic Newsletter, published May 19. The Newsletter will be broadcast 6 times a year, always after the plenary sessions, and it contains 4 rubrics. “Highlight” presents a recent topic of high national importance. “From the plenary session” will provide a selection of far reaching decisions and issues. “News from the Secretariat General” informs about recent developments from the various departments. The most important CRUS’ events are listed in the “Agenda”.

The whole Newsletter is available in German and French on www.crus.ch.
