Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam secures EIB support for renovation & expansion

The European Investment Bank (EIB) will provide a loan of EUR 230 million for the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU). The loan of EUR 230 million is not only the first EIB investment in higher education in the Netherlands, but is also by far the highest investment within this area provided by EIB. The loan will be used for the construction of new building facilities and renovations of the VU campus in the Zuidas. The investment aims at helping VU to improve education and research facilities as well as increase the university buildings’ energy efficiency. The renovation and construction works will provide new research facilities for VU, the Medical Centre of VU and the University of Amsterdam which will jointly cooperate in the field of human health and life science. Renovation and construction works on the Campus started last year and are expected to be finished by 2017.
