Updates from the Erasmus Mundus Support Initiative (EMSI)

On 20-21 November, the European Commission’s DG EAC and EACEA held the annual conference "The Sustainability of Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s programmes". The event was organised with the support of the Erasmus Mundus Support Initiative (EMSI), involving ACA, DAAD, NTT DATA (coordinator), and Tipik.

The conference explored the academic, institutional and financial dimensions of sustainability and gathered more than 200 participants, who actively participated in peer discussions. The State of Play report that framed the conference, along with follow-up materials and discussions, is available on the Erasmus Mundus Community platform

EMSI is now moving forward with a new series of activities aiming to support the Erasmus Mundus community:

1. Study visit to Ghent University, 11-12 March 2026

The study visit will be hosted by Ghent University (Belgium), Europe’s leading institution in participation between 2004 and 2023. Ghent University currently participates in 17 EMJMs (8 as coordinator and 9 as full partner).

The visit is exclusively intended for up to 30 participants, representing:

  1. Administrative staff of newly selected EMJM projects, and
  2. New administrative staff of already running EMJM projects, from both coordinating and partner institutions.

The programme will focus on the exchange of good practices in operational and strategic management of EMJMs, with particular attention to:

  • Attracting top students worldwide
  • Effective coordination among consortium partners
  • Student support services
  • Sustainability strategies and partnership development.

Expressions of interest can be submitted until 12 December 2025, 17:00 CET via the online form

2. Call for Topics – EMSI Peer Mentoring Scheme

The Erasmus Mundus community is invited to help shape the thematic focus of the online peer mentoring groups running from January to September 2026. These groups are designed to foster structured, peer-driven learning and exchange, strengthening capacities for EMJM implementation. Each mentoring group will be chaired by an experienced practitioner and will bring together members of the wider community.

Have your say! Select your three preferred topics under the Call for Topics here. The consultation is open until 12 December 2025 (EOB). Following the selection of topics, a call for participation in the mentoring groups will be launched on the Erasmus Mundus Community Platform.
