Upcoming seminar: “Inclusive Excellence” – a Global Approach for European Higher Education?

How to deal with “inclusive excellence” in the global higher education context? ACA, DAAD, HK-dir, VLUHR International, and DZS-CZELO will discuss this important topic in a joint hybrid seminar organised on 11 May 2022, 13:00-17:00 CEST.

Europe’s global role and leadership in higher education is one the key pillars of a new European Strategy for Universities launched by the European Commission earlier this year. It connects Europe’s global competitiveness and the EU vision for “excellence that is open, fair, and spread across the regions, types of HEIs, and across the four missions in a balanced way”.

Based on the European Commission’s strategic guidance, such inclusive excellence is of the distinct features and key strengths of Europe’s higher education compared to other parts of the world, rooted in European values. Yet several practical questions arise in this context:

  • What could “inclusive excellence” mean for various higher education actors in Europe in the global cooperation context?
  • What are the key elements of this approach and how do they come together?
  • How could this approach be leveraged to achieve institutional, national, and European level missions (e.g., with regard to sustainable development goals, humanitarian missions)? What could be done at the European level to enable that?

ACA, DAAD, the Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills (HK-dir), VLUHR International, and the Czech National Agency for International Education and Research – Czech Liaison Office for Education and Research in Brussels (DZS-CZELO) will tackle these questions in a joint hybrid seminar organised on 11 May 2022, 13:00-17:00 CEST in Brussels and online.

The participants will discuss the strategic scope and role of Europe’s global higher education cooperation, through the emergent concept of inclusive excellence, and explore ways to pursue this approach in international cooperation, based on ACA members' examples of impactful practice.

Registrations for onsite and online participation will open on 11 April 2022. Stay tuned for event updates on ACA’s social media channels.
