Unpacking “the fourth priority” of the Erasmus+

The end of April was exciting for the ECEM Project consortium and external partners who have met in Brussels to discuss ongoing project work and have conducted the second part of the NA workshop with the representatives from the National Agencies. The discussion focused on how to further clarify and provide support to the beneficiaries regarding the future projects and actions that would be supported under the Erasmus+ priority “Civic engagement, common values and democratic participation”.

The NA workshop participants have agreed that there is a need to clarify what type of actions would be supported under this priority, how they would relate to the national strategies (which are currently non-existent), how would the potential funding issues be resolved and how to use the experience from the other three horizontal priorities to advance this agenda. The input from the NAs will be used to design the recommendations for different institutional and European policymakers. The recommendations will target the future Erasmus+ programme design, as well as institutional level, and they will also be based on the input received by HEIs and civil society organisations.

On 7 May 2024 12:00 – 13:30, the project consortium is organising a webinar Empowering engagement: Service-learning perspectives where three key stakeholders - higher education institutions, students, and community partners - will share their experience of participating in service learning, the advantages and challenges they faced, and the practical tips they can provide. More about the ECEM project:

The Enriching Communities through Engaged Mobilities (ECEM) is an Erasmus+ project which strives to design measures to increase students’ participation in civic engagement initiatives by building connections with Higher Education Institutions and Civil Society Organisations. Therefore, the aim of the ECEM project is to:

  • Increase the civic engagement component of mobilities in the field of internationalisation of Higher Education by making interaction with local communities the norm in mobilities
  • Ensure recognition of learning outcomes for participants that take part in civic engagement initiatives
  • Improve the collaboration frameworks between Higher Education Institutions and other societal actors to make mobilities contribute to societal change and common European values.
