This report presents the results of a three-year project involving 15 partner regions in the European Union. The UNICREDS project focused on the regional development of knowledge-based economies and, specifically, on the relationship of the academic, governmental and business communities. One of the main conclusions from this project is that the interaction between these dimensions is critical to help promote sustainable regional development. The report presents several successful case-studies from the partner regions and provides policy recommendations with a view to support a more intensive collaboration between universities, the government and the industry sectors.
