The 3rd UNESCO World Higher Education Conference took place earlier this month in Barcelona from the 18 to 20 May 2022. It was an was an opportunity to activate a global conversation about the reinvention of what higher education will mean in the future, nurtured by diverse narratives.
Bringing together relevant stakeholders, the main task was to define and prepare a road map for the new era of higher education, responsive to the challenges faced by humanity and the planet, as a result of diverse forms of crises, with special attention to the global disruption created by COVID-19.
While affirming higher education as a right for all, a new report was also launched at the conference by the UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean, named "The Right to Higher Education: A social justice perspective," which is applying a social justice lens to the right to higher education.
Further to this the official launch of the 8th GUNi Higher Education in the World Report: "New Visions for Higher Education towards 2030" took place during the conference, setting out the horizons of transformation of higher education for the coming years and highlighting a new vision to drive change. The report has been designed as a live document in virtual format that will continue to grow over the next four years.
