Deep-rooted inequalities persist in education, condemning millions of children in the world to diminished opportunity and even to poverty. This is one conclusion of the UNESCO’s 2009 Education For All - Global Monitoring Report, entitled Overcoming inequality: why governance matters. At the same time, international aid for education is in danger of decreasing, due to the current financial crisis, the report warns. The 2009 edition was officially launched at the UNESCO International Conference on Education, taking place in Geneva (25 to 28 November).
Published every year since 2002 (for further details on last year’s edition consult ACA Newsletter – Education Europe, December 2007), the Education For All (EFA) - Global Monitoring Report is prepared by a team of independent experts and published by UNESCO. Following up on the World Education Forum in Dakar (Senegal) in 2000, this yearly publication assesses progress towards reaching the Education For All goals, by the deadline of 2015.
It can be ordered on the UNESCO website.
