Tracking Alumni Career Paths: Third NCCR North-South Report on Effectiveness

Heim, E. M., Engelage, S., Zimmermann, A. B., Herweg, K., Michel, C., & Breu, T. Tracking Alumni Career Paths: Third NCCR North-South Report on Effectiveness. NCCR North-South, Bern, 2012. Pages: 60.

The Swiss National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) North-South is an international research programme on global change and sustainable development, providing funding and training for Swiss and Southern PhD students since 2001. The third in a series of reports examining the effectiveness of the programme, the current report presents results of a survey with 83 alumni, former PhD students. Globally, the results indicate that the programme has been successful in advancing the career of former students from the South, as about 65% of Southern alumni had a high-level position at the time of the survey. In addition, and counter to the “brain drain” phenomenon, more than 90% of Southern alumni were working in a Southern country at the time of the survey.
