Towards the new Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE)

Five Erasmus+ National Agencies (NAs)—CMEPIUS (Slovenia, coordinator), DAAD (Germany), EDUFI (Finland), Nuffic (the Netherlands), and OeAD (Austria)—have joined forces with the Academic Cooperation Association (ACA) to support the strategic and operational revision of the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE) in view of the next Erasmus+ programme.

Implemented as a Training and Cooperation Activity (TCA), the initiative focuses on developing evidence-based recommendations with the aim to strengthen the ECHE both as a strategic and operational framework for higher education institutions and as an effective steering and quality assurance tool for National Agencies. In doing so, it seeks to enhance the ECHE’s role in fostering internationalisation, institutional development, and compliance with programme priorities.

One of the focus areas is related to NAs’ experiences, approaches, and good practices related to the guidance and monitoring of ECHE-holding HEIs, which are mapped out and analysed based on a dedicated survey. The findings feed into the work of the European Commission’s ECHE Working Group and inform the future design of guidance, monitoring, and compliance mechanisms, while supporting peer learning among NAs.

The survey findings will be instrumental in preparing a series of online peer learning activities on the topic of guidance and monitoring, which will take place in the second half of 2026.
