The international dimension of African higher education

Knight, J. and Teffera, D. African Higher Education - The international dimension. Boston College - Centre for International Higher Education. 2008. ISBN 978-99-8858-940-9. Pages: 584.

The publication African Higher Education - The international dimension, co-edited by Dr. Jane Knight and Dr. Damtew Teferra, puts forward an analysis of the international dimension of higher education in Africa based on case-studies from 11 countries - Botswana, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Mozambique, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania. In addition, the publication comprises thematic chapters on issues ranging from internationalisation actors and programmes, to student mobility and policy issues and developments.

The publication streams from a project carried out at the Boston College, Centre for International Higher Education in the US, and driven by African scholars, with funding from the Ford Foundation and Carnegie Corporation in New York. The project, entitled Higher Education in Africa: The international dimension, conducted comparative analysis of internationalisation in Africa, investigated ways in which higher education might benefit from regional integration and international alliances, and critically analysed the challenges of internationalisation.
