The German Kultusministerkonferenz publishes recommendations on digitalisation in higher education

The Kultusministerkonferenz (KMK), the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder of Germany, has published a series of recommendations on digitalisation in higher education. The recommendations are intended to contribute to the overall strategic development of higher education institutions, to cross-university quality assurance in study programmes with regard to digital competences and to the digital exchange of student data. The recommendations are addressed to the Länder, the Federal Government and university management, faculties, departments and teachers. The KMK also suggests ways in which these recommendations could be implemented. For example, the Länder and the Federal Government could join forces to create the necessary framework conditions for goal-oriented digitalisation, by, for instance, promoting Länder projects on digitalisation in teaching or by supporting the development of digital transfer of students’ data in accordance with data protection regulations.
