Jung Cheol Shin, Ulrich Teichler, The Future of the Post-Massified University at the Crossroads, Series: Knowledge Studies in Higher Education, Springer International Publishing Switzerland, 2014. ISBN 978-3-319-01523-1. Pages: 255.
This book tackle the issue of the crisis of identity which the contemporary university is facing in times of 'post-massification'. The major challenge is how to harmonize the triple missions of teaching, research, and service while in contemporary higher education the area of research dominates the other two functions. This book takes a step towards further academic and policy discussions on restructuring the triple functions of university. The aim is to design the future of the post-massified university, presenting how to address social demands facing the university in a globalized world and during an economic crisis. The study contains also proposals for systemic reforms of current higher education systems by realigning the teaching, research and service functions.
