This interdisciplinary volume, published in collaboration with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), provides a thorough overview of the European ERASMUS programme, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2012. Since its launch in 1987, more than 3 million people have benefited from this programme, making it one of Europe’s most popular and well-known programmes. The present publication tries to explain the success of ERASMUS, analysing its influence on strengthening a European identity, and raising questions on the existence of a «Generation ERASMUS» and whether ERASMUS serves as a symbol for «new» Europeans.
