Social inclusion in education and training

European Civil Society Platform on Lifelong Learning. Social inclusion in education and training. EUCIS-LLL, Brussels, 2011. Pages: 24.

The importance of the social dimension of higher education has been reconfirmed in the latest EU agenda for the modernisation of European higher education and the EURYDICE social dimension report. Yet, there is a growing concern that the social dimension of higher education might escape from the political agenda in Europe in times of crisis. In an effort to prevent this kind of oversight, the European Civil Society Platform on Lifelong Learning (EUCIS-LLL), represented by 24 European networks working in education and training, has presented its view on the issue of social inclusion in education and training.

The new publication is a result of the exchanges between the platform’s participants in 2010-2011, and contains specific policy recommendations and project examples. Inviting the EU and its member states to adopt sustainable, inclusive and smart strategies in education, EUCIS-LLL articulates the need for a broad and overarching initiative that would cover all sectors of education and training and create alternative paths to ensure access to lifelong learning for everyone.
