SIU in the world: more education and development programmes

SIU continues to receive considerable funding to manage a variety of education development and cooperation programmes. The most recent batch includes:

• additional cooperation programme between institutions in Tanzania and Norway
25 million NOK is allocated to university cooperation on management of natural resources between institutions in Tanzania and Norway. The scope is to support co-operation in the area of natural resources, forestry, fisheries and/or wildlife with a focus on governance and reliable public administration;

• declaration on cooperation in higher education between Norway and USA
A declaration on cooperation in higher education was signed in Washington DC on 22 October 2007 to enhance student flows between Norway and the US;

• new cooperation programme between institutions in Sudan and Norway
65 million NOK to university cooperation have been allocated to cooperation between institutions in Sudan and Norway. The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to support the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and to contribute to poverty reduction in Sudan (see ACA Newsletter - Education Europe August 2007);

• cooperation programme with Russia 2007-2010
42 million have been allocated to 15 projects within the Norwegian Cooperation Programme with Russia. Each project involves a Norwegian and a Russian institution of higher education or research (see ACA Newsletter - Education Europe April 2007).
