On 1 July, Professor Rolf Tarrach –who was President of ACA from 2008-2011 –became the new President of EUA, a position he will hold for the next four years.
A native of Valencia, Spain, Rolf Tarrach was rector of the trilingual University of Luxembourg from 2005 to 2010, and President of CSIC Madrid (the Spanish Scientific Research Council) from 2000 to 2003. Among his many roles and responsibilities, he was a professor of theoretical physics at the Universities of Valencia and Barcelona. At the latter, he also served as Dean of the School of Physics and, for some time, as Vice-Rector.
Professor Tarrach replaces Professor Maria Helena Nazaré (University of Aveiro), who served as EUA President from 2012 to 2015. Professor Martine Rahier (President of Swiss Universities and Rector of the University of Neuchâtel) was appointed Vice-President along with Professor David Drewry, who will continue in the post.
