This book addresses university governance reforms
across Europe since the 1980s. The focus falls on objectives and achievements of reform in England and the Netherland
s (the ‘forerunners’ in reforming university management), and Austria and Germany
(the ‘latecomers’). Case studies are followed by a) a comprehensive comparison of their results and b) possible implications of these results for research.
