The objective of this study is to provide the CULT Committee with concise data on the state of play of Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Member States. This data will serve as background information for on-going and upcoming debates on the new generation of education and training programmes, as well as on the EU 2020 strategy.

More specifically, the study is expected to:

• underline the main obstacles to the implementation of the dual education system in some Member States;
• determine why some Member States decided to implement/not to implement the dual system;
• establish links between VET/dual education excellence and economic growth;
• identify trends/changes; and
• suggest innovative approaches on how to foster and increase the attractiveness of this type of education.
