Old liaisons trigger new cooperation initiatives

A consortium of 22 German universities together with DAAD will coordinate the academic setup of the German-Turkish University (DTU), along with their Turkish partners. The DTU aims to meet the increasing demand for well-trained specialists in Turkey and will offer bachelor’s, master’s and PhD degrees. The university will be based in Istanbul and will have five faculties, namely: engineering; natural sciences; economics and social sciences; law; and humanities and cultural studies.

The Turkish side will provide the land, buildings and infrastructure, and will bear the recurring costs. German contributions will include the secondment of senior and junior lecturers, the development of curricula, material for the establishment of a language centre, allowances to supplement local salaries, scholarships, as well as further-training measures.
