OECD urges Spain for innovation

A recent OECD Policy Brief pointed out Spain’s remarkable performance in terms of growth. However, it claims that this growth is not balanced and, as mentioned in the February ACA Newsletter-Education Europe, is lacking in innovation and the utilisation of new technologies that help strengthen entrepreneurship and bolster the education system. According to OECD recommendations, a series of educational reforms are required:
  • improving schooling from early childhood right up to the tertiary level;
  • reinforcing adult training;
  • raising university fees.
Although reforms are likely to meet opposition, the government must face Spain’s relatively poor performance as exemplified by international rankings or, less directly, the lower-than-average private returns to higher education. OECD's Policy Briefing
