Nordic-Russian cooperation: SIU supports new programme

The Norwegian government’s High North strategy gives new direction to the cooperation programme with Russia in higher education and research. The programme, covering the period 2007-2010, aims at strengthening the cooperation between Russia and Norway in higher education and research with particular emphasis on areas of significance for the High North region. Prioritised areas range from petroleum and energy and environmental issues to business sector issues and humanities. The programme is regulated by an agreement between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, SIU and the Research Council of Norway. Higher education institutions in Russia and Norway are invited to submit joint applications for long-term cooperation projects. In addition to such bilateral projects, the Nordic Council of Ministers in also entering a new programme period, targeting many different Russia cooperation programmes. For the first time, the Baltic countries will join the Nordic countries in these initiatives. ACA members IPK (International Programme Office for Education and Training in Sweden), CIMO (Finland), and Archimedes (Estonia) are all implicated. SIU
