Next steps in the European Education Area interim evaluation

On 4 April, the European Commission launched a public consultation on the European Education Area (EEA). With the deadline on 27 June 2024, this consultation is part of the interim evaluation, which will assess the effectiveness, efficiency, relevance, coherence and EU added value of setting up the EEA.

The previous steps in the evaluation included a call for evidence as well as the European Commission’s detailed report on Progress towards the achievement of the EEA (for more details, see ACA Newsletter – Education Europe, November 2022). The latter report took stock of the advancements made by the end of 2022 (i.e. 8 out of 40 EU-level actions) and outlined the remaining strategic initiatives to be adopted by 2025.

The latest initiative adopted under the EEA includes the EU Higher Education package consisting of a Communication on a blueprint for a European degree accompanied by two Council recommendations on (a) sustainable and attractive careers in higher education and (b) a European Quality Assurance and Recognition System (for more details, see ACA Newsletter – Education Europe, March 2024).
