New Project: ACA and China’s STTC join hands to map EU-China researcher mobility

ACA and China’s Science and Technology Talent Center (STTC) have jointly embarked on a new project, Joint study of EU-China Researchers Bilateral Mobility and Policy Recommendations, which is the 31st activity of the second phase of the EU-China Policy Dialogues Support Facility (PDSF-II).

The overall objective of this project, a mapping exercise, is to examine the current situation of researchers’ mobility between EU and China, analyze push-pull factors influencing the mobility choice and pattern, and formulate policy recommendations to improve the mobility and to balance the flow of researchers between both sides. Results of the study will directly support the High Level People-to-People Dialogue and the EU China partnership in research and innovation which is governed by both the EU China S&T Agreement and the EU China Innovation Cooperation Dialogue.

The joint study will be conducted by a team of 4 experts, Gao Changlin (Senior Research Fellow) and Cao Kai (Associate Professor) from STTC on the Chinese side and Bernd Waechter (ACA Director) and Queenie Lam-Schöch (ACA Project Manager) on the European side between October 2014 and April 2015.

PDSF supports the cooperation between China’s Ministry of Science & Technology (MoST) and the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research & Innovation (RTD). It is financed jointly by the European Union and China and serves the purpose to support a wide variety of activities in the context of Sectoral Dialogues between the European Commission’s Directorates-General (DG) or the European External Action Service (EEAS) and Chinese Ministries or State Agencies.
