Dr Kai takes up office as DAAD Secretary General on 1 April

The German Science Manager Dr Kai Sicks takes up the post as Secretary General of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) on 1st of April. He replaces Dr Dorothea Rüland, whose term of office at the world's largest academic exchange organisation ended at the end of January.

Dr Kai Sicks has extensive experience in the internationalisation of higher education systems. He headed the International Affairs Department at the University of Bonn until end of March 2021, where he was responsible for expanding the internationalisation of the university in research, teaching and administration. Before, he was, among others, managing director of the Bonn Graduate Centre. Dr Sicks holds a doctorate in German studies. He studied at the universities of Vienna, Cologne and Frankfurt am Main. Scholarships took him to the German Historical Institute in Washington, D.C. and Cornell University (both USA).
