The DAAD is expanding its global network. A new DAAD regional office opened in the Georgian capital Tbilisi. This office will cover Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, and will provide information on academic exchange as well as counselling for students and researchers in the Georgian, Armenian, Azerbaijani, German and English language.
“The formation of this DAAD regional office will strengthen academic cooperation in the region, and with Germany. Greater exchange in academia, education and culture can contribute to resolving conflicts in the South Caucasus. This is particularly important in light of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine. The impacts of this war are also clearly felt in the South Caucasus, not least because of the many refugees from Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. This expansion of the DAAD Network means we are jointly underpinning academic diplomacy and international cooperation,” stated Katja Keul, Minister of State in the Federal Foreign Office.
The DAAD operates a global network of regional offices, information centres and so-called "information points". The current 19 regional offices are often not only in charge of the country they are based in but also for several other neighbouring countries. The DAAD’s global network of regional offices covers around 80 countries on all continents.
