Movetia: a kit for greener mobility

In line with the “Developing greener mobility” publication (See ACA NewsletterApril 2020), Movetia’s Higher Education Division has developed a kit intended for international relations offices in higher education institutions with a view to promoting mobility and reducing CO2 emissions.

The aim is to assist international relations offices tasked with handling mobility in increasing student and staff awareness with regard to choosing a means of transport that generates less CO2 than the plane when travelling abroad. This kit aims at raising awareness of greener ways of mobility by providing information and to evaluate the options available. Higher Education Institutions are free to use this tool in accordance with their own sustainable development strategy.

The kit consists of:

  • Tips and tricks for travelling by train
  • Positive arguments and elements when choosing to travel by train
  • A decision tree with regard to travelling abroad
  • A map of Europe created by Swiss Railways and the ETH Zurich which serves to compare a journey by train and by plane in terms of travel time and the C02 generated.

The Swiss-European Mobility Programme (SEMP) offers financial aid for students, both incoming and outgoing, who choose to travel to and from their destination using a means of transport generating lower CO2 emissions than the plane. This subsidy totals CHF 100 (EUR 90) per mobility action.

The kit is available in German, French and Italian on Movetia’s website.
