More than 120 participants at GREET-Academic Refuge joint event in Brussels

On 13-14 June ACA and UNICA hosted a joint event on behalf of the two projects they are part of, respectively, the Horizon2020-funded GREET and Academic Refuge funded by Erasmus+.

Titled “Higher Education Values in Practice - Integration of highly skilled refugees and at-risk academics in Europe”, the event gathered an international audience of more than 120 delegates at the European Committee of the Regions for two-day exchanges on academic freedom, higher education role and values, internationalisation of higher education and support for highly skilled refugees, and cooperation at European level.

From the inspiring keynotes by MEP Wajid Khan and Themis Christophidou, Director-General of DG EAC, to the two panels on Higher education values and Refugee integration practices in Europe, to interactive parallel sessions on support for refugee students and threatened scholars, and on networks as advocacy and cooperation tools, the programme featured highly competent and committed speakers, engaged at regional, national and European level in supporting at-risk academics, students and scholars with refugee background.

Thanks to the speakers and highly engaged participants, the GREET consortium will soon publish a short report from the event, outlining the main conclusions, key issues raised at the event and a number of recommendations for policy makers with the view to the new generation of EU programmes and continued support for a cause that will need sustained effort and commitment from the higher education community and decision makers towards a Europe of diversity, respect and cooperation.

The report will be available here.
