Neubauer, D. E.& Kuroda, K. (Eds.) Mobility and migration in Asian Pacific higher education. Palgrave Macmillan, Basingstoke, 2012. ISBN: 9780230118188. Pages: 252.
Although the topics addressed in this book cover a wide range of issues, what ties them all together is their focus on the role and impact of mobility and migration within the context of higher education in the Asia Pacific. The contributors’ opinions range from one of great enthusiasm for the diversification of higher education that can be achieved through mobility, while others point out that the movement is overshadowed by the recent mass expansion of access to higher education in the region.
The compilation is divided into two main parts, first addressing the national and regional transformations resulting from mobility, followed by an evaluation of institutional responses to the phenomenon. Through a number of case studies from different parts of the world, the authors move beyond just physical mobility and also venture into the notions of movement of ideas and institutional forms.
