The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is part of the Alliance of Science Organisations in Germany, which gathers 10 eminent scientific organisations in Germany. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the German Basic Law, whose article 5 is devoted to the freedom of science, research and teaching. For this occasion, the Alliance has launched a campaign using the motto “Freedom is our system. Let’s stand together for science”. The aim of the campaign is to present and find ways to make research findings on relevant issues publicly available to everyone. In the context of the campaign, from 18 March until 26 September 2019, constructive debates and events will be organised on opportunities and challenges of independent research and teaching.

Moreover, on 18 March 2019, a joint Franco-German declaration on academic freedom was signed at the Conference for Academic Freedom in Berlin.
