Joint programmes: Practical guidance from Erasmus Mundus Master’s Programmes

On 17 March 2025, the European Commission published a comprehensive new report, titled Planning and Delivering Jointness in Erasmus Mundus Master’s Programmes. This publication is based on data collected through surveys, interviews, and insights gathered during the Thematic Seminar of the same title, held in Brussels on 7–8 November 2024. The report is developed as part of the Erasmus Mundus Support Initiative (EMSI) by consortia members NTT DATA and ACA, with the support of DAAD (Brussels office), on behalf of the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) and the Directorate Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture (DG EAC), European Commission.

The publication is divided into two main sections. The first part consists of the State of Play on Jointness in Erasmus Mundus Master’s Programmes, focusing on the findings gathered from the desk research, surveys, and interviews conducted to provide input for the thematic seminar. This is followed by the Proceedings of the Thematic seminar on Jointness in Erasmus Mundus Master’s Programmes, focusing on an overview of the key outcomes of the aforementioned seminar and introducing additional future insights. The publication offers practical guidance for enhancing university cooperation across several key areas, including:

  • Harmonised student recruitment and admissions;
  • Joint quality assurance, accreditation, and certification;
  • Curriculum design and innovative teaching methods;
  • Coordinated student services and mobility; and,
  • Industry partnerships and programme sustainability.

The report features actionable recommendations, best practices, and inspiring case studies, drawing from the expertise of over 70 academics, administrators, students, and alumni involved in Erasmus Mundus consortia.

Erasmus Mundus consortia and practitioners are encouraged to join the Erasmus Mundus Community platform, to continue exchanging ideas, building connections, and shaping the future of Erasmus Mundus collaboratively.
