From April 2009 onwards, Jean-Marc Rapp of Switzerland will be the President of ACA’s sister organisation, the European University Association (EUA). The EUA consists of the rectors’ conferences and over 800 universities from 46 European countries. Jean-Marc Rapp secured a comfortable lead over the second candidate, Sjibolt Noorda, the President of the Dutch rectors’ conference VSNU.
A lawyer trained in Lausanne and Berkeley, Rapp was the President of Lausanne University between 1999 and 2006. He also served as the President of Swiss ACA member CRUS, the Swiss rectors’ conference, from 2002 to 2006. He has been a member of EUA’s Council (board) since 2005, and has served as one of the association’s Vice-Presidents since 2007. Among his chief contributions in EUA are his strong commitment to the continuation of the Bologna reforms and the principle of institutional accreditation. ACA congratulates Jean-Marc Rapp and wishes him well for his important task.
