This study produced by German Federal Ministry of Education and Research on the internationalization of higher education pursues three objectives:

1. Provides a brief overview of internationalization of higher education to shed light on relevant concepts and strategies from a global, European and domestic perspective and provide background information for an in-depth analysis for Germany
2. Examines the scope of and precise data on student cross-border educational mobility with regard to its development and regional characteristics.
3. Presents an up-to-date and comprehensive analysis of the study and living conditions of foreign students in Germany and German students abroad. The information provided by foreign students in Germany and German students in foreign countries should give insights into how international mobility can be promoted.
