Internationalisation and the student voice: Higher education perspectives

Jones, E. (Ed.). Internationalisation and the Student Voice: Higher Education Perspectives. Routledge, Oxford, 2010. ISBN: 978-0-415-87128-0. Pages: 214.

As universities seek new and innovative ways to internationalise, oftentimes attention can be focused on prestige or financial gain at the expense of student learning outcomes.  Drawing on direct research with students, Elspeth Jones, Professor of the Internationalisation of Higher Education and International Dean at Leeds Metropolitan University, has taken a closer look at the educational impact of internationalisation initiatives through the eyes of students. Jones closely analyzes several different modes of internationalisation, including traditional short- and long-term study abroad, trans-national arrangements, internationalisation of the home curriculum, and international service learning programmes, in hopes of ascertaining which modes of internationalisation enrich the students’ learning environment and which do not.
