EUA (2021). Institutional transformation and leadership development at universities: a mapping exercise. Brussels, Belgium.

Given the current changing patterns within our societies and, invariably, universities, which were aggravated by the Covid-19 pandemic, institutional leadership development and institutional transformation in higher education have come under the spotlight, especially since there seems to not be much evidence available on the institutional and system-level approaches in Europe.

This report published by EUA and produced under the EU-funded NEWLEAD project, directly responds to this evidence need by providing a comprehensive picture on leadership development and institutional transformation in higher education systems across Europe.

Based on a survey of higher education leaders, which resulted in more than 200 valid responses from 27 different systems, and a survey addressed to EUA national university associations, with 21 valid responses, the produced report contributes to the conversation on the importance of capacity-building for higher education leaders as an enabler to support the post-pandemic institutional adaptation and transformation.
