During the India-Africa Higher Education and Skill Development Summit in New Delhi, which took place in late October, Indian ministers unveiled their plans to expand collaboration with Africa in the field of higher education and to support African students in developing digital literacy skills.
Acknowledging that many African politicians in prominent roles have received their education in India, Minister Shri V. Muraleedharan introduced the “Study in India” initiative, which was launched in 2018 to attract more international students to study in India. The programme offers more than 2600 courses across various institutions in India to foreign students. It brings together various scholarship and self-financing programmes to attract students from India’s partner countries, including Africa.
Furthermore, Minister Shri V. Muraleedharan announced that 15 000 scholarships will be granted to African students for courses up to post-graduate level under the Pan Africa e-Network. This initiative will be implemented in collaboration with six Indian universities with emphasis on digital literacy skills.
