Inclusive internationalisation: Finnish expert network builds on European training

“Inclusion is a core value for me. I wanted to understand how international activities can truly be accessible to all students,” said one participant from a Finnish higher education institution.

This reflection captures the aim behind the Inclusion ACAdemy, a European training series coordinated by ACA, supporting higher education institutions in implementing the inclusion and diversity horizontal priority of the Erasmus+ programme 2021-2027. Finnish participants explored how to make international opportunities more equitable and accessible—and brought these insights home.

The work continues in Finland. Building on the momentum of the Inclusion ACAdemy, the Finnish National Agency for Education (EDUFI) has launched the Inclusion in Internationalisation of Higher Education expert network. The network serves as a national platform for sharing experiences, tools, and practices that promote inclusion in internationalisation and mobility. In addition, the expert network serves as a resource for EDUFI. Its members may be invited to contribute to national development work and participate in events, seminars, or other activities.

The network held its first meeting in March 2025. The pilot phase will continue until the end of the current Erasmus+ programme period in summer 2027. After this, the future of the network will be reviewed based on its impact and relevance.
