In case you’ve missed it, on 28 May we published the May Think Piece on Supporting higher education institutions to develop strategic plans for more inclusive mobilities, authored by Valérie Van Hees, Coordinator, and Dominique Montagnese, Inclusive mobility expert, both from the Support Centre for Inclusive Higher Education (SIHO), Belgium. In it, the authors point to the need for more concrete objectives and action from national systems and make the case for more data collection and impact assessments on underrepresented students. In order to begin remedying the divide between inclusion-related mobility ambitions and realities, the piece ends with frameworks and focused reflection as starting points for designing and updating inclusion strategies and building institutional communities. The article is part of the ACA Think Piece series Inclusion in International Higher Education: European Perspectives & Insights.
Over the past few months, ACA Director, Irina Ferencz, has been also contributing to the ARC8 Expert Group on Inclusive International Mobility of People and Knowledge. The members of the group are jointly working on a chapter of the ARC8 Outlook Report 2030: Inclusive and Diverse Higher Education in Asia and Europe, to be released this autumn. The experts will make recommendations for the ASEM Senior Officials and university leaders in Asia and Europe on advancing inclusion in international exchanges. Amongst the topics discussed are equity in internationalisation, balanced mobility, access to opportunities, underrepresented groups in internationalisation, virtual exchanges, internationalisation at home, and intercultural exchanges. In the lead-up to the comprehensive report, several presentations and summaries are available on the group’s webpage.
Established in 2008, the ASEF Rectors’ Conference and Students’ Forum (ARC) is a multi-stakeholder dialogue platform for university leaders, policy makers and education practitioners, and students to discuss higher education issues and shape the education landscape in Asia and Europe. ARC is recognised as the Official Dialogue Partner of the ASEM Education Ministers Meeting (ASEM ME).
