Inauguration of the new Vietnamese-German university campus

The Vietnamese-German University (VGU) is recently relocated to newly built premises near Ho Chi Minh City, equipped with modern facilities for research and teaching. The VGU not only stimulates the modernisation of Vietnam‘s higher education and research landscape, but also deepens cooperation between the two countries in the fields of education and research. Likewise, it promotes exchange between students and researchers from Germany and Vietnam.

VGU is a public university in Vietnam, established in 2008 upon Vietnamese-German intergovernmental agreement for education and science cooperation. The university applies German academic models and standards in its curricula, while at the same time adjusting itself to the demands of Vietnam’s labour market. VGU-consortium, which consists of more than 30 universities from Germany, provides academic and administrative support to VGU.

Currently, more than 2000 students are enrolled in seven bachelor‘s and nine master‘s programmes. The number of PhD students is steadily increasing, as is the number of around 90 lecturers and researchers. The new campus sets the stage for VGU‘s planned expansion to 5.000 students by 2030. For the past 14 years, the VGU has received funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research via the DAAD.
