In memoriam: Judy Powell

On 30 September, Judy Powell died. Judy had, for many years, represented the British Council in the ACA General Assembly. She had also served as an ACA Vice-President in the years 2004 and 2005. Judy had been the Director of the Central Bureau for Educational Visits and Exchanges, which was, in the course of the 1990s, integrated into the British Council. In the British Council, Judy became the synonym for higher education matters. She had retired only little more than a year ago, when she gave a memorable farewell reception on 4 July (“independence day”).

Judy was an ardent supporter of ACA, and, what is more, a dear friend to many of us. She loved traveling all over the globe, music and laughter, and good food and wine, preferably in the company of good friends. Until her last days, her house was a place of joyful hospitality. Judy was buried in a touching ceremony on 9 October in Amersham near London, attended by many friends. In our minds and hearts, she will live on.
