In memoriam: Alfred Ebenbauer

ACA is sad to report the unexpected death of Alfred Ebenbauer, the President of Austrian ACA Member Österreichischer Austauschdienst (ÖAD). Alfred Ebenbauer died on August 11.

A professor of old German and Norse Language and Literature, Alfred Ebenbauer put his mark on Austrian higher education policy in the last two decades. In 1991, he became the Rector of Vienna University. He also served for two years as the President of the Austrian Rectors’ Conference. After a number of years as a Vice-President, he became the President of ÖAD in 1997.  Professor Ebenbauer was a never-tiring advocate of the internationalisation of Austrian higher education. ÖAD – and ACA – are losing a dynamic and spontaneous personality, and a friend. We shall always keep a fond memory of him.
